Celtics History
The Boston Celtics are quite simply the most storied franchise in professional basketball history. The
Celtics have won 17 World Championships, more than any other NBA franchise.
Led by head coach Red Auerbach, the Celtics won eight champsionships in a row from 1959 through 1966.
This run occurred in the middle of a stretch in which the Celtics won 11 titles in 13 years. The
Celtics franchise has retired 20 uniform numbers and a microphone (for legendary announcer Johnny Most).
